As an entrepreneur, there are times when you may feel like you’re in a daily race against the clock. Juggling multiple responsibilities can lead to burnout, especially if you’re not properly motivated and inspired to accomplish your goals. When it comes to staying motivated, there are several things you can do to manage your stress and keep yourself from falling into a rut of bad habits. Creating a morning routine is one-way business people can remain productive throughout their day, but the first thing any business owner should do is set personal goals for themselves. We interviewed successful entrepreneurs who told us about the beneficial routines they’ve adopted over time that have helped them to be focused on reaching their goals in business and in life. Here’s what they said:
What motivates business persons
business persons are inspired by their desire to make a difference in the world, their passion for what they do, and their drive to succeed. business persons want to be their own bosses. They want the freedom that comes from owning their own company. They are inspired by your vision and your ability to see something that others can’t see and then help them realize it.
Set personal goals
If you’re serious about making progress on your goals, it’s important to take the time to set them. To carry out this properly, keep these things in mind:
- Set personal goals. This is one of the most important aspects of staying inspired and making progress. Don’t just say that you want to work toward something; say what it is that you are working toward! This gives your brain a specific target for its efforts and helps guide those efforts towards achieving something tangible rather than getting lost in the vague wish list of ideas that we can all come up with when we think about our long-term goals (like “I want to be happy” or “I want wealth”).
- Set achievable goals. It’s tempting sometimes to set huge goals for yourself because they feel like an accomplishment if they’re reached, but this doesn’t usually help because most people never achieve their big dreams anyway—and even if they do achieve them, there may be no real sense of satisfaction from having done so if they were too difficult or challenging from the beginning. Instead, try setting more realistic targets that allow room for growth while still feeling like a triumph when accomplished; if possible, break these into smaller chunks so each one feels like an accomplishment along the way!
- Set measurable objectives: Along similar lines as above–if your goal doesn’t have any kind of measure attached (such as “make $100k per year”), then how will know if you’ve achieved anything? If there aren’t any measures involved then what would constitute success? In order words: What needs fixing/improving?
Leverage triumphant entrepreneurial stories
There are many motivational books, but here are a few that helped to be inspired in your business:
- The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg
- The Start-Up of You by Reid Hoffman and Ben Casnocha
- The 7 Habits of Highly Successful People by Stephen Covey

Maintain a healthy routine
You can’t be energetic and inspired all the time. The key is to maintain a healthy routine that allows for short bursts of intense energy followed by long periods of recovery. Exercise, eating right, getting enough sleep, meditating, or practicing another relaxation technique are just a few ways to have this.
In addition to maintaining your physical health, it’s important to remain socially active as well. Having positive interactions with other people helps provide you with a sense of purpose as well as motivation when things get tough. If you feel like your social life needs an upgrade try one of these activities:
- Spend time outdoors.
- Go out on dates with friends/family members.
- Join a club at school or at work.
Create a morning routine
A morning routine is a series of tasks and activities that you carry out every day, preferably first thing in the morning.
This helps you to start your day with a boost of energy and motivation, which will help you face any challenges that come up later in the day.
It’s important to have this kind of structure because it helps you plan ahead, be focused on your goals, and also eliminate procrastination.
A good way to start creating your own morning routine is by making up a list of things that make sense for YOU! Try asking yourself these questions:
- What kind of person am I? I like a lot of activity in the mornings or not. Or would my ideal morning involve quiet alone time? How much sleep is enough for me? Do I like getting up early or late? These are all things worth considering when deciding on how long each task should take (like how long it takes me to get ready).
Set reminders for yourself
You can set reminders for yourself by using your phone, computer, or other devices.
- Set reminders for your goals, such as: “Remember to ask that person about the software I need.”
- Set reminders for appointments with clients and customers.
- Set reminders on tasks that you need to accomplish at work or home, such as: “Ask my boss whether he would be willing to pay more than $50 per hour,” and “Find out if there are any job openings in this area.”
Engage in motivational activities
There are many ways you can engage in motivational activities. These include:
- Reading inspirational books and listening to podcasts.
- Joining a mastermind group with like-minded people who want to achieve similar goals as you carry out.
- Attending local conferences or meetups where there will be speakers and experts on the topic of motivation who can help you learn how to better motivate yourself and your business over time.
- Create vision boards that include pictures of things that inspire you or remind you of where you want your business/life to go (e.g., a picture of an airplane if your goal is world travel). This is a powerful way for us humans to visualize our future success, which means our brains will find it easier than ever before at helping us reach those goals quickly!
Get a good night’s sleep.
You might think that you’re a super-human and can run on adrenaline, but you’re not. Sleep is important for your body, mind, and immune system to function at their best. Getting enough sleep helps keep your heart healthy, helps prevent diseases like diabetes and cancer, improves muscle strength, and reduces pain caused by chronic conditions such as arthritis. It also makes sure that your bones stay strong so they don’t break easily if you fall down.
